Coffee of the Month Club: Costa Rica Coffee

Introducing Costa Rica Coffee, the exclusive coffee for April 2024, to Coffee of the Month Club members.

In 1960, a group of small coffee producers in the region of Los Santos Tarrazú in Costa Rica took a stand against the dominance of larger producers in the region. Their goal was simple: establish equal profits and a voice for small producers. And so, Coopetarrazú was born.

Since its inception, Coopetarrazú has grown to become one of the most significant contributors to the economic development of the Los Santos Tarrazú region. The coop now assists over 5,000 members. What's more, 80% of their members are small producers with farms of four hectares or less that employ approximately 10,000 people throughout the year.

To support the workers contributing to the success of the group, Coopetarrazú has established a dedicated daycare center, Casitas de La Alegria. Workers can bring their children, 12 and under, to the center while the parents pick coffee on the farms. The children receive nourishing meals and care from the center’s highly trained and compassionate staff.

As part of Fire Dept. Coffee’s Fair Share Initiative, we’re donating $2 from every Coffee of the Month Club subscription to benefit the day care program at Casitas de La Alegria. That means, with every cup,  you’re giving back to the coffee community and supporting the hardworking men and women who have made this delicious coffee possible.

And it is truly a special roast.

At 1,300 meters, the Tarrazu La Pastora beans are harvested and fully washed before they are mechanically dried. It’s made with Caturra and Catuai varietals. In your cup, you’ll notice a smooth, full-body taste, and an elevated sweetness. The taste is defined by notes of brown sugar, milk chocolate and red apple. This is a consistently memorable roast made by farmers dedicated to the craft of producing some of the world’s best coffee.

With this much attention to detail, you can rest assured that this is a superior coffee. The resulting cup of coffee is equally amazing. We are excited to share this coffee with you this March. We know you will love it too.
