We have officially arrived at the start of a long holiday weekend.
Across the country, many Americans will grill out or take a first dip in the pool. They’ll celebrate Memorial Day weekend as the “unofficial start of summer.”
We don’t begrudge anyone a good time. In fact, we may fire up the grill this weekend ourselves. But it’s important to remember that Memorial Day is about so much more than backyard BBQs.
At Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, more than 250,000 flags have been planted next to more than 250,000 headstones in preparation for a solemn remembrance. Thousands of people will soon arrive to pay their respects.
Memorial Day is truly observed at Arlington and at cemeteries from coast to coast. It’s observed at small town Main Street parades and at elaborate ceremonies in our largest cities. It’s an opportunity to reflect and remember the military men and women who gave their lives in service of our nation.
At Fire Dept. Coffee, a company led by firefighters and veterans, we want to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude for the sacrifice of these heroes and the families they left behind.
In fact, we want to recognize all those who have served, in times of war and times of peace. We want to especially thank all those who are serving in the military today.
We know that freedom is a gift that is earned again each day. Our nation is fortunate that so many Americans continue to volunteer for military service, offering to protect that gift for all of us.
To all of our military heroes, we say, “Thank you!”

As a former Active Duty Airborne Infantryman and a Reserve Combat Medic with two deployments, I will always honor our veterans. Will never forget those who have fallen or have come home with mental health issues. Our veterans is why we have our freedom. I am truly blessed and honored to have serve our country for total 33 years in the military and a fulltime firefighter for 29 years

🇺🇸 I am so thankful for those who protected, and still protect, this nation. Because of them, I had a better chance in life. Because of them, I joined the greatest citizens of this world. Because of them, I learned, evolved and became more than I could have ever been. There is a lot of gratitude and appreciation this Memorial Day. 🇺🇸 Thank you all. 🙏

You’re very welcome and thank you for your support. It was my privilege to serve. I feel as though I got as much out of my service as I put in, if not more. I want to thank you for all you do for emergency services and the community. That being said no thanks are necessary, but I appreciate the sentiment.

My Dad (US Army Air Corp) piloted a cargo glider (Waco CG4a) carrying a jeep and some infantrymen in the invasion of Holland. Landed safely and made his way back to his post in England.
