It’s Military Appreciation Month.
It’s Memorial Day Weekend.
It’s the perfect time to unveil a new paint scheme for the No. 26 Fire Dept. Coffee car in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Alsco Uniforms 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Kaz Grala will be driving the sharpest car in the field with a new design inspired by our Shellback Espresso, which itself is a tribute to the U.S. Navy and sailors everywhere. The paint scheme on the Toyota Supra reflects the design on our Shellback Espresso packaging — but it takes it to a new, more awesome level.
The FDC logo and King Neptune are featured on the hood, while his tentacles extend around the car. As a company founded by a U.S. Navy veteran, Luke Schneider — and certified by the National Veteran-Owned Business Association — this weekend holds special meaning for us, as well as Navy sailors everywhere.
Becoming a "Shellback" is a rite of passage that carries deep-rooted traditions and symbolism. The term refers to a sailor who has crossed the equator during a naval deployment or voyage, transitioning from being a lowly "Pollywog" to an esteemed and initiated member of the Shellback community.
The equator-crossing ceremony, also known as the "Line Crossing Ceremony" or the "Order of the Shellback," is a time-honored naval tradition observed by sailors all over the world. It is a symbolic event that dates back centuries and is steeped in maritime lore.
Fire Dept. Coffee's Shellback Espresso pays tribute to this cherished naval tradition and honors the dedication and bravery of U.S. Navy sailors. In keeping with tradition, Shellback Espresso is made with coffee beans harvested near the equator. With each sip, coffee enthusiasts can embark on their own journey, crossing the historic line and embracing the spirit of the Shellbacks.
The beloved Shellback Espresso can be enjoyed in the form of bagged coffee, coffee pods, and in a convenient Ready to Drink can. You can even show your support with the Shellback shirt!
It won’t be easy for other drivers to catch the FDC car with Grala behind the wheel, driving the FDC car for Sam Hunt Racing. But you can definitely catch a glimpse of it on Saturday.
If you’re in the Charlotte area, you’ll want to get to the track before the green flag drops at 1 pm. Tickets are available online and kids under 12 get in free! For everyone else, be sure to tune in and watch on Fox Sports 1.
We’re excited for Saturday’s Xfinity Series race because it’s a great opportunity to introduce more race fans to Fire Dept. Coffee, to the Shellback tradition and to the extraordinary Shellback Espresso!
If you miss this race, you might be a Pollywog!
