Fire Dept. Coffee finally has its own fire truck.
And not just any truck. It’s a fully loaded Rosenbauer Avenger that will be ready to respond with humanitarian relief during emergencies and natural disasters.
The truck is equipped with supplies and resources to provide humanitarian relief and help meet the basic needs of those citizens affected by a disaster, as well as to support the first responders on the scene.
We’ve been so fortunate to have found the perfect collaboration opportunity in Rosenbauer America. It started with a conversation at the FDIC International conference last year. The team at Rosenbauer saw our vision and they were fully on board, bringing their own idea and, of course, their incredible truck that they helped us adapt in countless ways to fit the need.
Rosenbauer also provided the Avenger Engine, hundreds of man hours of labor on the build, and many of the technical systems and equipment that made this project possible.
Along the way, we gathered the support of several other organizations who donated equipment to ensure that this truck was filled with everything we’d need to meet the basic needs of citizens and first responders.
So we owe a special debt of gratitude to companies like Deployed Logix, STIHL, Milliken & Company, Kraken Power and ZOLL. Their support is what helped this project go from a good idea to a fully functional, mobile support vehicle.
When people lose their basic needs, their needs stay basic. And that’s what the new Rosenbauer Disaster Relief Fire Truck brings to the scene.
We’ll start with the obvious. As a coffee company, we don’t go anywhere without bags coffee and coffee on the go with our Skull-Crushing Instant Espresso Coffee. So the truck is equipped with two industrial-sized coffee brewers that will enable us to keep pots of delicious coffee ready for affected community members, first responders and anyone else working at the scene.
We’ve also got multiple refrigerators on the truck that we’ll keep stocked with bottles of water, other cold beverages and food.
During storms or other natural disasters, sometimes the first and most important thing you need to do is escape the elements. So we reached out to Deployed Logix and the company donated an ASAP-12 Rapid Shelter System. It’s a 12’x16’ mobile shelter that can be set up by two people in 60 seconds.
We received blankets and clean clothes for people to change into, as well as other necessities, including items for pets.
Thanks to our friends in the Textile Business at Milliken, the truck is equipped with a full-sized washer and dryer for those times when doing a quick load of laundry is the simplest thing you can do to help people feel refreshed and clean during an emergency.
Deployed Logix also donated a Technical Decon Shower Unit to work with the truck’s on-demand water heater for emergency decontamination. This shower can also be used as a hygiene shower to accommodate more basic sanitation needs.
ZOLL specializes in medical devices to treat patients suffering from serious cardiopulmonary and respiratory conditions. They were excited to donate an automated external defibrillator (AED) for the truck. We also have a selection of other basic medical equipment that will be a valuable resource and supplement the primary medical responders, as needed.
The fire truck also comes equipped with generators to ensure that we can power components on the truck. The Power Take-Off (PTO) Generator, for example, is located under the cab of the truck. PTO generators are highly efficient, using the power from the engine to power equipment and generate electricity.
The truck also has a Kraken Power electric power supply that provides power anywhere at any time with zero emissions.
Sometimes the simplest and most essential thing that must be done is clearing the way to get where you need to be. So we’re grateful to STIHL for donating battery-powered chainsaws that we can keep on the truck to help clear trees, branches and debris.
If you would like to make a contribution, please send us an email with Attention to Randy James at info@firedeptcoffee.com.
As we begin bringing the truck to real life emergency response situations, we’ll undoubtedly discover new ways to support citizens and first responders and new equipment and tools to bring to the scene. Fortunately, this Rosenbauer truck is extraordinarily adaptable, giving us the freedom to optimize the response to fit the needs.
Ultimately, this is all about putting people first and doing anything we can to take care of those who are encountering the most difficult situations. We’re so grateful for everyone who has joined us on this journey.
When the call comes, we’ll be ready.

My friend and I are both retired firefighter/ paramedics and we respond to fires and other emergencies with the Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services Canteen out of Crystal Lake. You have a great vehicle with lots of nice equipment to help those involved in a disaster! Our canteen doesn’t have any medical equipment on it because we’re usually paired up with a rehab ambulance. We do have a 4 burner stove to cook food on and a freezer for ice. Maybe we’ll run into you guys at an emergency.

This is a great idea! I have the proper drivers license. As Randy knows, I’m retired Rockford Fire. I am currently driving a school bus for Harlem School District in the Loves Park, Machesney Park area. So I will be limited in the times I could respond. I could petition the School Board to grant me time off for emergency response. However I have most of the summer off anyways and I’d be willing to be part of the team. My I suggest finding a way/place for victims to use a restroom. Maybe seek cooperation with a company to supply porta potties.
